    Posted on: 4 June 2024

If you’re interested in learning more about the geography, history, and ecology of Livingston Island and its adjoining estuary, wetlands, and bush, I recommend checking out Nelson Coastcare’s webpage at www.nelsoncoastcare.org. They’ve done a fantastic job of producing a Livingston Island Nature Walk Audio Guide, and you can access all 7 tracks directly from their website.

The Livingston Island Nature Walk offers a serene experience in Nelson, south-west Victoria. Here are some details about the walk:

    • Length: Approximately 2.73 kilometers.
    • Difficulty: Easy.
    • Scenic Views: Enjoy picturesque views of the Glenelg River Estuary, unique marsh areas, and abundant birdlife.
    • Ideal Time: It’s an ideal sunset walk.
    • Highlights:
      • Saltmarshes: The walk leads to a boardwalk through saltmarshes, including the fascinating Beaded Glasswort.
      • Bird Hide: A short side trip to the bird hide provides a highlight of the walk.
      • Wildlife: Keep an eye out for kangaroos, swans, pelicans, spoonbills, herons, and ducks.
      • Flora: In spring, you’ll find many wildflowers along the trail.
      • Lake Oxbow: Nice views of Lake Oxbow.
      • Dog Policy: Dogs are not allowed on this walk.
