What a successful event!
The collaboration between the Australian Plants Society Warrnambool and Surrounding Districts, the Portland Library and the local Landcare Network, SEA Landcare brought together a lovely collection of like-minded people who undoubtedly made this event a memorable one.
46 people turned out at the Portland Library for the launch of Kevin Sparrow’s new book, “Plants of the Great South West, 4th edition.” It was wonderful to see many plant enthusiasts all in one space.
Kevin’s dedication to documenting the indigenous flora of Southwest Victoria shines through in this fourth edition. Kevin’s meticulous record-keeping and attention to detail has resulted in a fabulous field guide that brings clarity to those wishing to zoom in on plant ID. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Kevin was in fact an Optician Technician in his early career. Someone who brough clarity and vision to people’s lives not that dissimilar, to the clarity and focus he has brought to us through this amazing book.
Each edition of this book has proven to be a real game changer for volunteers and flora enthusiasts. Previous additions of the book have had an enormous impact on our little environmental community. As each addition has expanded so too has our community’s knowledge about plants. The book is a fabulous resource for volunteers and professionals engaging in environmental work, and flora appreciation. It is also a great reference guide for gardeners who are looking for an indigenous plant for their garden.
Kevin’s commitment to capturing the beauty and ecological significance of our native plants enriches our understanding of the natural world. Thank you, Kevin, for sharing this heartwarming update, and may the book continue to inspire and educate plant enthusiasts and environmentalists alike!
